WHAT’S NEW: 1950s bookcase

WHAT IS IT?

A 1950s dark oak bookcase with four sliding glass doors.

WHAT’S IT FOR?

The bedroom. I’m going to re-paint it and decorate it to fit with our ‘modern colonial’ look.

WHERE DID YOU GET IT?

eBay. But it came from Lee Chinnick Antiques in North London. It cost £35.

WHY DO YOU NEED IT?

We currently have a cheap fake pine thing in there and I’m desperate to replace it with something more interesting. My boyfriend was being really indecisive about what he wanted in there despite hours of research and hundreds of suggestions by me. I saw this on eBay and fell in love with the glass doors so I decided to just buy it. I figured if he hated it I could always find another home for it. Luckily he likes it (and he even drove me to Finchley to pick it up). The 1950s style goes well with the rest of our flat and I’ve got some really good ideas for how to redecorate it. I’ll keep you posted…
