LATEST CRUSH: Orla Kiely wallpaper

Orla Kiely’s retro prints are surely the perfect case study for a simple idea done well. They’re instantly recognisable, popular without being ubiquitous (yes, Cath Kidston I’m talking to YOU) and the muted colour schemes and geometric stylisation prevent what are essentially floral patterns from becoming twee (and again).

What’s more, despite their popularity and mainstream status, I can’t resist them. The new wallpaper range at Harlequin = instant love. I am now busy trying to come up with projects into which I might incorporate them. The boy has banned florals but I reckon I could get away with some of these, don’t you think? Florals by stealth…
